prehaps the problem is water.   I have 4 hydranges and I have to water
them, if not every day then every other day for sure.   they are water
loving plants, and in this drought it's a must.   even under normal
conditions  mine gets water quite often.
so tell you friend to water at least every other day.   (deep water)
