Claire and All,
I have been thinking about installing electric fencing. I have a friend that
did this, but she installed it about a foot off the ground. I am curious to
hear about yours and anyone else who had installed it to deter the deer.
On Kalmia in Central Illinois
I have tried several plants. For me they are at least as hard to grow around
here as rhodies and azaleas. They like that same moisture retentive, but
well drained soil which I find difficult to keep at the moisture level they
like, since I don't do a lot of watering. When they bloom they are
wonderful. Very slow growing! I moved one nice plant that was getting too
dry last year to a better location and the blasted deer ate most of it within
a week or so. I don't know what it will look like this year, right now it
looks pitiful.
