I too have gotten some unbelievable deals on plants at Shopko and Kmart in my
area (sometimes as little as 10 cents). Tuesday mornings in the summer seems
to be best time to go on a "hunt". But they too will not "talk" about the huge
amount of plants that they toss in their dumpsters except to say that they
cull out of the displays anything that appears dead (hey..some are still green
on one side ;-). I plan to be more aggressive this summer and actually get
the manager to come and talk to me about them. When the culling is being done
it is usually a teenager without authorization to do anything but what the
boss has told them.
How many of on this list actually hunt for the plants that need a home with
some tender care? I feel sort of like Charlie Brown- someone needs to take
those plants no one else wants! My children hate to go shopping with me in
the summer because I stop at all the plant places looking for "sad" plants.
BTW (by the way) most do make it-

The solution to adult problems tomorrow depends on large measure upon the
how our children grow up today. There is no greater insight into the
future than recognizing when we save our children, we save ourselves.
