Hello Arnhild,
Think Marge has already answered most of your questions about germination.
They usually take two years around here as well as I do not force seed
germination.... just let them ride with the local weather.
My seeds for C. atropurpurea came from a commercial house.... still had to
cull. Thee will be variation the amount of dark color in your seedlings from plant
to plant. You usually wait until the 2 year of growth, take a good look at the
color in each seedling and then discard the ones that do not meet your standards.
No easy task after that much time invested.....
