Diane,
I don't know that you can classify a good plant book as out of date. There
may be a lot of new cultivars out on the market, but the old plants haven't
all disappeared. Some of the best plants are "old" plants. As you make new
acquaintances and visit established gardens, you see these plants. The
desire to possess them hits you and your host/hostess offers you a division
or cutting. Then try to find them in the "new" books.
The older books are invaluable. Sometimes you find info in them you don't
find anywhere else. I really like my old books. Don't give up on them!
