Well Bob,
I do not use all that "chemical stuff" around here, so if all my hosta begin looking like poop then out the come and in goes something that does work. I like hosta and use them in the garden, but they are not the only shade plants out there.

They did or do have a research project going on about nematodes. I think they found nemacur works trhe best and some other chemical works some but that was about it. I am sure Bill Meyer could fill in the details.
