Nancy-
I do not have this particular honeysuckle but I do have two - they both
receive full sun for the most part and I abuse the heck out of them. The
common one is very established and grows to the point of being a nuisance.
My other - not sure on the exact name - but it has the purple-red foliage is
just starting to show aggressive growth and this is it's second season in his
current location. This one get more shade in the afternoon.
In my experience with both honeysuckles - neither "took off" until their
second season. According to my "big book" the one you have is hardy from
zones 5-9 so leaving in the ground is an option for you??
I would cut back on the water allowance for him until he resumes
growth....could be that he is getting too much water for his very little
amount of foliage and cannot use it. I would put into a dryer place and just
site back and wait. You might even want to check to see if the "bare root"
has gotten mushy...if so, call the company and have them replace it and start
all over.
Good luck and happy gardening
