Be glad you are not me, Marge....
        I agree with Marge on the planting and care of Astilbes. They need a high
percentage of compost dug in when planting , good organic mulch and decent
moisture levels for best performance. Notice the word best... you can do
with less but if you want plants and blooms like in the photos... they are
heavy feeders and are woody. Dividing rejuvenates them.
        I had a collection of Astilbe in the garden when I first began and then
removed them all. My partner JoAn brought her collection with her when she
moved here so now I am back to planting them once more. This time they will
be in rich raised beds around a new water feature with autumn & painted
ferns, small hostas, ginger, epimedium and pulmonaria.
