Hi, Sheila,
 Yeah, I know all about your delicate problem--! I have the gravitational
pull of the planet Jupiter  and you can figure that out yourself. I
snapped off the top branch of a french lilac that I had planted one year
ago.  Hopeless, I thought I had ruined it, too. But to my amaze, the side
axils have sprouted and the bush is beautiful.....

Maybe this is small conpensation but a large ray of hope...
