I would have to agree with you, Paul. Maidenhair fern is at the top of my
list as well. I have it growing in several locations. Have you tried the
Himalayan maidenhair as yet? Adiantum venustum resembles our maidenhair,
only is a groundcover reaching only 8 inches or so in height. Kind of like
our maidenhair without the stems...
Believe I read some place that Grape Fern need a bacterium to grow...
transplant it to a location that does not have that in the soil and the
grape fern starves to death. I have never carried this fern in the nursery
because of difficulty in transplanting and getting it to live.

Our native 'Maiden Hair fern' is still my favorite fern, with dark purple
stems and dark spring foliage. The oddest ferns I have grown are the
'Grape
Ferns' -- though my success has not been so good.
