Hello James,
I have not tried these vines on a chain link fence, but they are vines
that bloom nicely and do well in shade. First that comes to mind is the
Climbing Hydrangea. There is the species and several cultivars to choose
from. Thus far I have the species going up a walnut tree in my garden. Also
have Schizophragma Moonlight which is a very nice variegated version and
hope to add Roseum next spring. Decumaria barbara or Wood Vamp is another
vigorous vine for shade that is native to this region. Nice foliage and
bloom, often referred to as the "Native climbing hydrangea".

I'm looking at starting some vines in otherwise uninhabited sections of
our
chain link fence. :P The area is pretty well shaded throughout the
summer
months, and gets very little direct sun during other seasons as well.
Anyone have any suggestions on vines that might be happy to call this spot
home? You can see pics at the site in my sig -- we're looking along the
side of the front yard, where one neighbor's cement wall/garage sits (by
the
maple trees -- not by the walkway) on a chain link fence that sits fairly
close to the wall.
