I don't think you should let anyone discourage you from trying the
iris.  you will be happy if you decide to try some.   I've never had a
problem with any that I have planted.  I have them planted everywhere,
some in good soil, some in very poor soil.   they will do good for you
if you don't plant them deep.   let the rizone peek out of the ground.
it's my understanding that they need the hot sun,  and also if you plant
them too deep the will soon work their way to the top of the ground
"looking for the sun"
so try a few and see what happens.  I know you will be happy you did.
I also like the Siberian Iris,  I just keep dividing mine and I've got
them everywhere,  but not as many as the regular iris.
would be interested to know what you decide on this issue.
