Hi Sibrob, and Harold and Bob,
I do agree with Harold. I am a licensed pesticide applicator for
horticulture in Virginia. The law here, and similarly in MD and NC
states that you should use existing stocks of pesticides for the use for
which it is intended. To extrapolate, if you have a pesticide, you
should use it on the plants intended, exactly according to label
instructions until it is used up, if at all possible. After use, you
should triple rinse the container, and use it in the spray tank at the
last use. The container then should be wrapped in newspaper, and placed
in the outdoor garbage can. It should not be recycled conventionally.
The label on every pesticide container is the federal law applicable to
the end user.
On Cygon, Diazinon, and Sevin, all on the phase out list, you should
therefore use it until it is finished.
I must adhere to the labels strictly, so am under more law enforcement
than the average homeowner in regards to pesticides.
Cygon is definately toxic, but I find that a single application per
year of this insecticide is smart use of pesticides, compared to several
applications of a lesser strenth pesticide.
I also found Merit to lack merit in some labeled uses, but haven't used
it on borers. Jim
