{Disarmed} Re: Hyb: Intaglio X Sky Wings

At this point, I'm probably wasting my time trying to explain this to you, but FLAT FORM is no reason to assert that you have a hybrid between Siberian and Japanese irises. There is a vast amount of evidence to support variation within the species. Just study
Iris ensata and you will see that it is true.

There are many flat form bearded and Louisiana irises, yet nobody has ever made the claim that they had to be crossed with Japanese irises to get that form.

Did it ever occur to you that Darwin may have gotten it right?

In this wonderful world, variation is the means of survival. Sometimes that means interspecies crossing--and it does occur. However the vast majority of plant development is based not on hybridization but on selection.

Keep telling yourself that you have extremely fertile hybrids. The ink that has been wasted over your assertions will go down in history as the dark ages of irises.

It was actually closer to 500 of them at one point though I've since trimmed them back to around 3 1/2 dozen.

It may help to keep telling yourself that species classification is a human attempt to organize the wonderful messiness of nature.

I've long suspected that I. ensata and I. sanguinea have crossed before on more than one occasion. There are simply too many Siberian hybrids who show traits common to JIs to dismiss as coincidence.

The attached image is from Tycoon X Adrenaline Rush. This flat form shows up every once in a while in AR's lines. Anyone who has grown the old Siberian 'Blue Moon' will have seen this type of presentation before.
