<< Another question. I know this is really not the right place to ask this
question, but do any of you grow the intermediate bearded iris AZAP. It
is a very nice iris, but several of us here in Saskatoon have been
trying to grow it and it seems that no matter where we get this
iris(ordered from several different nurseries) it is never a clear blue,
but seems to have a virus or some affliction which results in spotted
flowers which I believe indicates a virus?? enviromental??? We believe
it has passed this spotted flower affliction on to nearby irises as
well. Such a very nice iris too. Any comments would be greatly
appreciated. >>
Jim,
I grow AZ AP also and some years it is very, very spotty and other years it
is a clear blue. I think it is an environmental/weather thing. I asked
about the virus markings on the iris talk list but no one gave me an answer.
I have not noticed any iris growing around AZ AP seeming to "catch" the virus
but have iris scattered here and there all over my yard with the malady.
This year the markings were extremely pronounced and many people in my local
club had the same experience. BE HAPPY is an SDB that is normally light blue
and yellow. I have lot and lots of dark maroon markings all over it. I
noticed it on at least 6 other iris too. Not pretty, but hopefully they will
clear up next bloom season?
