You definitely on the JIs need to try to control them. They are very tiny
white/black depending on their age between the foliage and you can learn to
identify the damage. The leaves look like they have rust. Need to spray with
systemic insecticides, Cygon 2E or Orthene. There are some pollen thrips that
bother Siberians. These insects are like pin points. You can see them
crawling. You don't grow Siberians in 1' of water do you? They can be grown
with feet in water but not that deep, I thought. Been growing them a long
time but can still learn. Both types must be kept wet after transplanting.
Borers do occasionally bother Siberians and JIs but not like TBs. I have just
been talking with Bob Sawyer, Shirley Pope. Have you been to Currier McEwen',
John White's and Sharon Whitney's gardens?
I have just returned from the AIS Convention in Memphis, TN and now looking
forward to the Siberian/Specie Convention at RBG at Hamilton, June 12-15
2003. Hope you can attend.
The main convention display garden will be at the Royal Botanical Gardens
(RBG) located in the Burlington/Hamilton, Ontario area. Explore the link to
the extensive RBG website and its many gardens.
