Hi Chris,
I don't think holding them over in water will hurt them. I have received
some in early fall and before I got them all planted the weather got too bad
to plant, so was surprised to find them growing happily in the water the next
May after being left out in many snow storms. But I have also found that
when I pot them up in potting soil and it gets hot too soon after planting I
will lose them. I lost my entire order last spring as we skipped spring and
went straight from winter to summer temperatures. I think that if we get an
early summer again, that I will plant in a Cactus mix in small pots so they
get real good drainage and then after they are established move up to gallons
in Supersoil, then plant out in fall.
