I think this is a very good question and thoughtful comment above. I do not
purchase mail order any more as there is a grower in our area who will pot up
the division in early spring for you and you pick it up when you can get
there. Actually, there are two growers if I decide to drive far enough.
Is there anything gardeners can do about the size of plants they receive? If
you query a seller, you are not likely to get an answer and the answer you
might get gives you little information. I am surprised this has not been
more frequently discussed. It is a very good question.
When I give a division of a plant to a friend, I would be embarassed to offer
more than a healthy large division. If I am going to dig around the plant at
all, I may as well do a good job of it.
