Hi Margaret, and Robins,
In our area, SI's, JI's, and other water loving Iris are subject to late
summer attacks from a very hungry caterpiller like insect. I don't know the
name, but it is cream and yellow, very hairy, with larger, scary looking
hairs and appendages, mostly black. It stings if you brush against it, or
handle it. It creates a sawtooth edge on the leaves as it feeds. I put on
gloves and handpick them, throwing them in the lake, where they meet their
demise. Jim
