Hi all,
Just wanted to thank Sheila and everybody else who offered suggestions.
Things got a little out of control here, and I'm using all kinds of things
including my new favorite, plastic margarine tubs for sprouting seeds. All
my seedlings are up and looking good except for the eggplant. Out of 12
seeds only 1 germinated. Maybe too cold? I dunno.
I want to plant my carrots, Swiss Chard, lettuce and radishes but it's been
raining here (here is Utah) for about 2 straight weeks. Theoretically this
is high desert but you'd never know it from all the rain. Can I go ahead and
plant the seeds for the Chard and transplant the sprouted lettuce in the
soggy ground, or should I wait until the ground dries out? As always your
suggestions are much appreciated!
On a stranger note, just because I like having critters around I've been
thinking about getting a duck or two to live in the garden and keep the
insect population down. Anybody have experience trying this and can
recommend a specific breed. Is this a really bad idea? A nagging voice in
the back of my mind tell sme this is one of those ideas that looks better on
the blackboard than reality. I don't mind sacrificing a few shoots if I get
to have a few more critters to watch. Anybody out there with duck experience?
Thanks as always,
Mike
