LOL... I enjoy your garden ideas...
I still say a good dog is the trick to keep out the deer. Though
husband added 10 foot high wire about his Ginseng Garden just in
case, my 100 roses have been deer free with the help of a four foot
fence (yah right) and the good dog. I've seen them all about the
property, but not on it.
Elk are a different story, but as of yet they haven't discovered the
roses. Even the mean dog (which we had to put down as he was killing
our lambs and treatening the grandchildren) couldn't keep out the
elk. A bachelor herd of 6 bull elk didn't even blink one morning at
our back porch as that mean dog chewed on their ankles. They don't
like humans so I hope a scarecrow will keep them at bay, otherwise I
guess I will be saving up jars...and hope it works.
I love the pumpkin strip idea, Stan. I was hating the idea of taking
up veggie garden space for them, so I think I will try them along my
garden border along the driveway. Rather festive idea anyhow.
Last year I was given three small mulberry trees. As to save room
(for more roses) I braided them together. They now look like a
darling artistic garden feature, and they didn't cost me a thing.
Sincerely,
~Carleen~
