Nesa,
If the Allsweet Peas are a sugar pea (I'm guessing they are by the name)
then the intent is to eat the pod with the peas. Pick when they are
plump (much more so than snow peas). They are very good raw so you can
taste readiness right in the garden.
My garden was a huge experiment this year. I am trying some new organic
methods. We have also had a lack of rain through the summer so that has
affected growing. After killing the ants with boiling water, I
replanted my summer squash and they are coming along but not budding up
yet. I am picking cucumbers and tomatoes somewhat regularly. Just
planted some lettuce, spinach, parsley and cilantro for the fall cool
weather. Black aphids (I think that's what they were) decimated my
green beans - but the lady beetles attacked and the vines seem to be
growing again. Might get a good crop after all. My big suprise is the
cabbage. I received some plants for free and this is the first time I
have grown them. I actually am seeing the heads forming so I may
actually get some!
Our weather has become milder - with temps in the upper 70's low 80's F
- and the rain seems to be coming regularly now. I think this is the
best time of year here in Michigan!
