Re: Kohlrabi

Pat,
I grew it for the first time ever last fall. It did great,
nothing bothered the plants at all. I did notice something was
nibbling here and there on the leaves of the kohlrabi I grew this
spring though and finally tracked it down to a few small cabbage
loopers. I was surprised that they didn't just cover the plants
like they do with broccoli and cauliflower. I had both broccoli
and cauliflower growing about 4 feet away and the loopers were a
big problem on those plants so I'm wondering if the moth
(butterfly?) that lays the eggs prefers those plants over the
kohlrabi.

I've planted kohlrabi again this fall. It seems the seeds are so
slow to germinate when I plant it directly into the garden, but
only takes a few days if planted indoors. If this fall crop is
anything like last year's, the plants won't really take off and
start growing much until the weather gets cold.
