I sprouted my tomatoes in seed starting containers. They did great. I
have done my lettuce this way too, although I had more success putting them
straight in the ground. transplanting seedling lettuce was tricky, because
one hot day made them wilt. In hardening off my indoor sprouts I am
finding that I need to set them outside as soon as they appear, otherwise
they are too wimpy.
The spinach I tried sprouting indoors. Nada.
The carrots i have tried 3x outdoors in the ground. Once I covered them
with plastic to hold in the moisture. This third time I built a 1" "wall"
of dirt around the area I planted the seeds so the water won't carry them
anywhere else. I would appreciate any foolproof ways with carrot growing!
I live in Pomona which is about 20 minutes east of LA.
