I have not grown shallots from seed, but have grown them from sets. From sets, they were very productive! About 6 shallots were grown from each plant. I still have a bowl full waiting to be used for cooking. And the ones that were too small to use for cooking, I planted back into the garden this past fall for a new spring crop.

Could somebody please tell me if they have been sucessful growing shallots (not spring onions) from seeds. I am able to buy the bulbs but they are very expensive.

I used to pickle the onions eons ago and would like to accomplish the whole kit'n'caboodle myself. I would appreciate your help.
