Don,
I thought our Magnolia sieboldii would never bloom. Finally last year it had
a few. It forms the flowers in the spring along with the leaves. Be patient,
ours took it's time, but they are worth it.

The types of magnolias commonly seen here in Wisconsin (M.

buds in the fall, and are noticeable all winter.
I have had a Magnolia sieboldii for several years and it has not yet
bloomed. Since I saw no fat flower buds over the winter, I thought
that it would not flower this spring either. However, when examining
the breaking buds the other day, I observed the following:

Might this be the beginning of a flower bud? Are there species of
Magnolia that do not show large flowering buds over the winter?
