Oak-ID from this description?

I'm looking at buying some tree seeds including oak acorns. I remember
from my reading, that there is an oak that is fairly hardy (very
necessary in my zone2 garden). Unfortunately, my books are packed and
likely to remain so. I cannot think of the species name though I think
it may be either q.macrocarpa or q. pulustris.

Things I remember from the description.
1) Fibrous rather than tap rooted so easier to transplant
2)Will take heavier soil than most oaks
3)Fairly fast growing

I read the descriptions in a very old copy of Sunset Western Gardens.
If anyone can id it from this description, I'd very much appreciate
it.
