If the Federal government were to use only natives it would certainly
provide a big enough market to get some natives established in the
trade. I would very much like to see this. I doubt it would have much
of an effect on the availability of lilac, yes or viburnum.

I hope the article at the UCONN site will convince you. The sterile
cultivars are only self-sterile and happily breed with their obnoxious
cousins. Loosestrife is insect pollinated so the pollen can be
transported many miles from one's garden. The research was done by the
University of Minnesota.
