RE: Styrax japonica 'Pink Chimes' and Cercis?? 'Forest Pansy'

Susan, I am currently growing Styrax japonica in a pot on my deck. It has
Calamintha, which blooms non-stop, covering the pot soil. The combination
is dainty and delightful. I will need to move it into a larger pot this
year, but I think I can keep it small for a number of years by keeping it in
a pot and root pruning. Ditto the Cotinus coggygria purpurea also growing
in a large pot. It is a wonderful backdrop color for a grouping of pots
containing perennials and annuals. I have been told that there is a
suspicion in the hort community that there is some genetic fault with Cercis
'Forest Pansy'. Very Experienced growers/nurserymen/garden designers are
not able to keep it alive for very many years in their gardens. In fact,
one who has the most beautiful, robust garden I have ever seen has lost this
tree 3 times! But, the foliage is beautiful if you want to take a chance.

Subject:	Styrax japonica 'Pink Chimes' and Cercis?? 'Forest Pansy'

I happened to see both of these trees this weekend in a beautiful garden
gour. They were small, immature trees. I looked up Pink Chimes and it
seems as though Dirr says it will reach 25' feet ultimately. I have never
grown either of these plants.
Can anyone tell me how fast they grow? Could they be confined to a pot to
curb the size?
Any help is appreciated.
