RE: redbud

Nancy, I wish I could tell you the # of years, but I don't know. I just
know that the source was reliable and the people who lost Forest Pansy are
excellent gardeners. But then Cercis is not native to us and we do have a
problem with soil born diseases here. Anthracnose on Cornus florida is
rampant and to my sorrow, Verticillium wilt has killed every Japanese maple
I ever planted except Acer japonica 'Butterfly'. But I'm holding my breath
because sometimes it takes a lot of years for the wilt to start and then the
tree dies one section at a time. I will have to cut down my Acer Bloodgood
this coming winter leaving my deck without shade from late afternoon western
exposure (oh hot, hot!). Losing perennials and shrubs hurts, but losing a
tree is AWFUL.

Marilyn , how long is long? It is native in the southeast. Could it be
the location? I know of some Forest Pansy trees that are 7 or 8 years
in the location along the road to Knoxville which means no extra care
just planting in the grass. Mine is 5 years old for me. I grow white
grass and purple Homestead verbena with it and would hate to lose it.
