Since most woody plants tend to take up more room than I have, I do what
many gardeners do -- plant the smaller species. I really enjoy mixing
woody groundcovers in my perennial beds to provide some interest during
the winter months.
Does anyone have any favorite groundcovers that they use? Right now
I have the obvious ones -- Cotoneasters and Pachysandra. There's also
a few Gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen) and an Arctostaphylos uva-ursi
(bearberry), and I've been considering some of the Genista and dwarf
Salix (willow) species.
There are a lot more that I'm not listing, but I'd like to find out
what experience people have with these. Do you have a favorite
juniper? What about herbs as ground covers? I love the way that
Satureja montana (winter savory) looks when in bloom.
