Well
I don't think a maple bleeds that much in august.
The do in spring and early summer.
I insist, trim in august.
In dormant wintertime the can not respond immediately with it's defense
system.
Cambial dieback close to pruning-wounds on Acer are often seen due to wrong
pruning time.
