I love lamb done right in a restaurant, but I haven't been successful w it at home. I tried a leg o lamb once and even the dog wouldn't eat it. My sister makes something call Lamb Marakesh that is delicious.

I would not be surprised to find that "lamb & rice" dog foods are really mutton and rice. Most Americans don't even like lamb, and mutton conjures up vague ideas of gamey-tasting meat you eat when everything else is rationed. We've never had it either, when ours start getting a bit past middle age we sell them. Once they've been around for a while we don't like the idea of eating them. We're not attached to them really but...we do feel differently about them than we do the lambs. Nothing better than agood spring rack of lamb. Here's a question for all of you husbands out there...oh wait, I mean those of you into animal husbandry: We got millions of sheep in this country. Why the heck is lamb so expensive? We do keep a couple lamb covers around foremergencies. They are like little felt sweaters. This year we are unprepared, I wasn't expecting any births for another week; we haven't cleaned outthelambing pens or even done inventory on our box of supplies. According to the forecast it's probably going to rain again tonightsothe other two ewes have a chance to pop 'em out during the wet. Basedonphysical signs they are close, but according to the calendar theyoughtto wait a couple weeks. Dumb sheep, can't read the calendar... :-) Cyndi -----Original Message----- From: owner-gardenchat@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Jesse Bell Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2008 10:29 AM To: gardenchat@hort.net Subject: Re: [CHAT] Surprises you need to knit some lamb sweaters for your babies!!!! Ans it's not a bad time for the ewes to lamb. While sheep are not exactly smart, they will stay in the barn/cote when it's cold--and the lambs will stay with them.
