Yes, this year I've felt like I had a target on my back. 
Re the cats - someone had to take care of them. The shelters were full. 

I have to say that my friends looked at me like I had too many zucchini to give away after a bit. I think that all of my friends that could adopt a cat ended up with one before the  deluge of cats ended. 

I wouldn't give up a single one, though it's pretty tough at our age. And you wouldn't believe our vet bills.
