As was pointed out on the list last year the Scarecrow is great as
long as
you remember to disconnect the water when it gets below freezing
outdoors.
That came up in a discussion as that's when most of our deer damage
takes
place. There's plenty for them to forage on now but when the natural
landscape becomes thin later in the fall they browse much more
heavily in our
gardens..and by then it's often freezing at night.

Hi everybody,
I won't be at GWA this year, but several of our
GreatGardenSpeakers.com
co-conspirators will be. We have fabulous new business cards and
wearable
stickers, so I'm sure our speakers will stand out. If you've got
questions
about GGS and want to talk to somebody in person, that will be a
great time
to do it. Debra Prinzing, Mary Ann Newcomer, and many others will be
around.
And if you've been thinking about joining, now's a good time--our
publicity
efforts are really kicking into gear. You can eavesdrop on our latest
newsletter to our speakers here to see what kind of publicity we've
accomplished for our speakers so far:
http://ymlp.com/archive_gebhmsugjgu.php. And you can always email
us at
info@greatgardenspeakers.com if you've got questions.
Y'all have fun in Dallas! It's my hometown, so I'm really sorry to
miss it
this year.
Cheers,
Amy Stewart

Hello,
I'm organizing a "best of" collection of articles with botanical
drawings
and will self-publish a book soon. I would appreciate y'alls input
on the
following:
1. Blurbs. Yes or no? Why or why not?
2. Foreword. Yes or no, why or why not?
3. Back cover. More blurbs, author bio, both, or one or the other?
Why?
Thanks for anything extra y'all feel prompted to say.
TC

TC, I say yes to blurbs. I think they especially belong on the back
cover
where they help give the book credibility when someone picks it up
to have a
look.
A foreword? Again, yes, but keep it on the short side. It's a great
place to
explain the purpose of the book and how it came to be. Good for you,
not
calling it a forward. You can include acknowledgements in the
foreword if
you like.
Another thing, on the top left of the back cover, add the category
names you
think the book should have. Bookstores sometimes use these when
deciding
where to place the book.
A sentence of two about the author and a quick overview of the
contents of
the book can be on the back cover but save the author bio for inside
the
book.
Good luck!
