I do not have an answer for you, Ellen
	The reason for posting to this list was my inexperience with book
publishers. I just accepted their requirements for submission of my
prospectus. On the site they have numerous editors listed for varying areas
of publications. No shortage, that is for sure. Kind of looks like a
bureaucracy in structure.
	I worked in government until retirement. I am used to bureaucracy, I
suppose. Or, at the least, accept it. It is their game, they have the power,
so you play it their way if you want their check. May sound sucky to all us
creative types, but that is the way the world works sometimes.
	I followed instructions and they have my prospectus. Said I would
hear from them in 30 to 60 days. So, meanwhile I chat with you, go on
writing volume two.

I've worked with 3 different publishers (no university presses), and all
have made their own acquisitions decisions based on marketing research and
in-house judgement.  The idea of getting reviews on a proposal to help them
decide whether or not to acquire the text is somehow disturbing.  Perhaps
they don't trust their own judgement?
