Re: Sourest citrus fruit as Spam

Thanks Margaret for that note. To totally belabor this topic and I promise
to take this to my blog afterwards and shut up about it - imo, it really
doesn't matter what a stand-alone system uses compared to something like
Google. Your desktop anti-viral software doesn't connect directly to
Google and frankly, I'm far more concerned about what Google thinks is
spam than what McFee thinks is spam. So if McFee works nicely for your
stand-alone computer, then it obviously works nicely for you. And you're
happy with this.
Google controls my traffic - McFee doesn't. If gmail puts an email into
spam then that's a problem as it will then take a concerted effort to get it
out of that spam box. And when gmail decides it's spam - then my websites
are branded as spam sites on google-search and my traffic takes a hit. (do
not think for one moment that all parts of google do not talk to each other)
McFee can identify all the spam it wants and it doesn't matter to my
website traffic - it may influence my open-rate on my mailings but that's
about it. ( I'd welcome any data to the contrary. Chris? ).
So while one example doesn't make a case, the fact that Dr. Parmar's email
hit my spam folder on gmail and found itself in an inbox only used by gwa
(with other email addresses in the header btw so I know it's a mass mailing
- Dr. Parmer's mass email software has glitches) has other implications in
our online world. So perhaps gmail only did this one time and it's wrong
and McFee's right or folks like the content so much they don't care.

The main point (after my first coffee has started working) is that if other
gwl members are doing mass mailings, then they should be aware of the issues
involved.

Again, I must apologize if I sound (ed) cranky on this issue. I think I'm
going to have another cup of coffee on a Monday morning.
