Cold calling is death when it comes to selling advertising. Take the  
time to call and get the name of the decision maker and than make an  
appointment. That's considered a common courtesy in the business.   
Sometimes it takes months, even years to get a business to buy ads.
A professional looking  press kit is very helpful and fairly easy to  
do with computers and laser printers.  Also, I'd think out of the the  
box.
Why limit yourself to garden centers and nurseries?
