Article length

It takes a lot more discipline to cover a topic comprehensively (especially a detailed one) in fewer words, and usually a lot more time as well because it requires more crafting, wordsmithing, tightening, etc.  However, often the final product is better.  

Having said that, for years I wrote a bimonthly column for Log Home Living magazine.  When they cut my word count by 1/3 and my fee by the same percent, I resigned after writing a few of the shorter column: it was more work to write and the pay was less.
