Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Here we've got rain and snow going on, but just a little of the snow, and
otherwise the weather has been unseasonably warm. This weekend I got storm
windows up so I could let the breeze go through for hours and into the
evening, very balmy. Today I wish they were closed to keep the chill wind
from getting through the casements.
But I'm moving ahead with garden activities. We have 8 new boxes that I've
been filling. Four are complete, and I've planted out snow peas, snap peas
and fava beans a few weeks ago. Today I noticed direct seeded peas coming
up, and I planted out 20 small Italian Sprouting Broccoli plants. I've
kept some back in the basement to replenish casualties if those snow
flurries take off. I have Black Kabouli Garbanzo beans (grow like a cool
weather pea) starting on the porch, and hope to get them in soon, although
they've been slow to start.
I've been hauling compost and wood chips in various states of decomposition
to fill the 4 new beds, complete the paths in the more formal area, and
starting the bed for a perenial herb border. Lots more to haul out there,
so it's back to the farm yard for rabbit and goat manure, and back to the
municipal lot for yet more wood chips. It's all free, but I have to
remember, just like with open source, it's free as in "free speech", not as
in "free beer". In other words, there's some work involved:)
