The plastic owl in the garden, and my big SFG is finally ready!

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

The plastic owl is supposed to keep away small birds, I don't know if
the snakes have vision good enough to see an owl. I think they really
mostly on scent using their little forky tongue for a nose, they're "
tasting" the air with it.

What works really good in the veggie patch, and the strawberry patch too
are those very brightly colored plastic snakes that you see at the
dollar store. Birds are very much afraid of snakes so I will be getting
some of those tomorrow before the majority of my seedlings come up.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Today I put down some scrap lumber for walking boards that I got from my
neighbor Dave, and it defines my planting areas. I painted the board
tops white and it looks really good! I made a very long bamboo trellis
using some more of those wonderful 5 foot Martha Stewart stakes from
Kmart (10 stakes in a pack for $3.99, "it's a good thing"). The trellis
is about 18 feet long. I showed Dave the trellis and his now painted
boards and he was very inspired...I think I mad a convert!
