Re: Introducing Ourselves

Hi Roland,
I too am new on the list but haven't really introduced myself. My
husband and I moved to Albuquerque, NM from Arlington, VA 2.5 years ago.
We are renting an old 3 bedroom farmhouse with a giant kitchen and lots
of windows with large sills to hold baby plants. It stands on 1/4 acre
of sand with two 50 foot cottonwood trees!! I have 3 garden plots that
are looking much better each year (lots of compost and manure added). I
did very well with corn, squash, tomatoes & tomatillos last year.
Gardening is very different for me here. I had a community plot for
three years in Arlington. I planted on hills there, and now I plant in
ditches to conserve water!

This year we are turning one of the plots into a rock garden with pampas
grass, fescue, shasta daisies and Sage. The other two plots will be
square foot with 6 varieties of tomatoes (bisignano, san remo,
manalucie, black plum, heatwave, & spitfire). All of which have been
started from seed in the house and look pretty good so far. Outside I
have spinach, romaine & salad bowl lettuce, beets, snowpeas & collards
covered with remay covers and coming along nicely. And finally, we plan
to line the fence with drought tolerant wildflowers (we have two dogs so
this should be interesting).

Sorry I got longwinded, but I love to talk about gardening!! Welcome to
the list. Your place sounds like paradise!! We're still looking for
the right piece of land, until then, we'll play with our little 1/4
acre.
