I have a couple "oregano" plants in my herb garden. One is the pink/purple flowered Common Marjoram, /Origanum vulgare,/ AKA "Common Oregano." This is probably what you have. It is relatively tasteless and odorless (although pretty in bloom) compared to the real stuff, the white flowered Greek Oregano, /O. vulgare hirtum,/ which origonates from the mountains of Greece. Now, /that's/ flavourful. There is at least one other strong flavoured species called Cretan Oregano, /O. onites,/ AKA "Pot Marjoram." All these oreganos and more are available as plants from Richters. They also sell seeds of Greek Oregano, which are easy to start. ____________________ | | | Bob Carter | Kootenay Bay, BC, Canada | bcarter@awinc.com | Zone 6b |____________________| Beware of Geeks bearing gifs. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
