Well, if knowing what items work better than others is more work than
having to wait 5-10 times as long for finished compost, then I will do
the work.
If you put the pile together right the first time, you won't need to
turn it, if you avoid over and under watering, you won't have
uncomposted volumes to sort out.
But for folk who have a small established garden, or those who are
growing for a hobby, just about anything will do. I am growing food for
my family (supposedly), I need the compost last year, not next year. And
I can't let half the nutrients bleed off into the ground.
It's much less work to do it right when you need the compost.
