RE: Re: SPEC-X

Kudos to Bob, for all the work he's done, both in the past and now.  Still, he can't do it all alone.  If he can hang in there, Dennis, so should you and the rest of us as well.  I'm sure we've given Bob some good ideas too.  As the old saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day".

We need more intros in the lesser known classes.  I like the idea of a medal contender having to earn high ratings in a majority of AIS regions.  You have to grow 'em to know 'em.

Although I'm still a rooky judge, I've grown iris for 30 years and I'm no rooky gardener.  I grow many other plants, besides iris, that shouldn't survive here.  Yes, some days I wish I was just an ordinary gardener.  All I do from early spring to late fall is work on my garden, and plan how best to re-arrange everything to fit even more iris in.  The other plants I grow are almost all iris "fillers".  I never take vacations during iris season.  There's only my husband and myself to do all the garden tasks, but I'm mainly the one who does all the planning and planting.

It ain't easy being green, but there you have it.  When all's said and done, I'm right where I want to be.  I'm not so sure about my husband, who's outside chopping wood.

Now, please please send us some pictures.  :)

Well that's the key word right there.  "Awarded".  Dolce is viewed differently by award-minded & non-award-minded people.

You asked why does it matter to us?  Well that's easy.  AIS is big a society devoted to promoting all irises (in theory).  It's dominated by TB enthusiasts.  SPEC and SPEC-X enthusiasts are a minority.  So having this TB being touted as a SPEC-X is a little bit upsetting because it's taking attention away from other SPEC-X that I care about.

I feel it's disrespectful to the likes of Little Caillet and Ally Oops to be competing for attention against TBs which aren't "TB" enough for TB-lovers.  It makes me angry!  I pay good money for my membership in AIS.  Yet it promotes TBs at the expense of other irises that I'm actually interested in, so perhaps my money would be better spent elsewhere.

I have to agree with Robert's comments here.  The SIGNA membership should be cheering that a hybrid in the SPEC=X class was awarded.
