Robert, are Louisianas more prone to damage by these bugs? I've been at this
location for 7 years, but growing irises in this general area for almost 30.
I've opened less than half a dozen pods with worms & damage since I've been
here, but not enough to choose the chemicals.

It won't help this year, but might I suggest natural predators? My first
spring here, (2004) I had a large population of aphids, but once the ladybugs
appeared the aphids disappeared. I seriously enjoy the population of preying
mantis. They add just one more spring treat. They take care of a wide range
of small creatures.

I use lace bags over my pods but they are for the deer. Open ended so they
don't stop the weevils.

Of course, I'm on the east side of the creek.

Thanks Bill for the recommendations. I thought that Cygon had been taken off
he market but maybe it is still available. I know that Merit has been
ecommended for borer control.
I am not out to kill off everything in the yard and don't like using chemicals
ut the amount of damage the last two years is forcing me to look for some
olution.
I use nylon hose to bag the LA crosses but still find that some of the seed
ods are damaged by the Verbena Bud Moth. There was a good article on Verbena
ud Moth control but unfortunately I don't remember where I read it. If anyone
oes and can direct me to it I would appreciate reading it again.
The Orthochaeta or Iris Bud Fly does extensive damage. It is frustrating to
see
looms open with almost no interior part left untouched.
If anyone else has any other solutions I would be glad to hear them.
Thanks again,
