I not sure I agree with you on this one or it's possible that I simply
can't follow what you're saying.

The longer the lens =  greater magnification which equals greater
compression which ultimately produces a flater effect.  I'm positive
that you agree with me on that.  

Naturally a focal length of 28mm produces less magnification therefore
less compresion which gives more distorted effect.

So I guess I'm going to have to disagree with you on your last sentence
now that I've thought about it.  I took an optics course once where we
photographed the front of a car with three different lenses.  We kept
the same framing and took one shot with a 28mm , one with a 105mm and
one with a 200mm.  The effect of each lens was profoundly different from
one another and I encourage people to try this.

I'd like to take a few iris shots with a fish eye lens , now that would
be cool
