OT: Re: CULT: Discouraging Cats -- Try not to make the world worse!

Hi all,

My housemates and I do a lot of TNR (trap neuter return, to
stabilize cat colonies), and cat rescue.

In most places, shooting a cat with a bb gun would be illegal.
Vets I go to have seen cats with injuries/infections from bb pellet
wounds.

Shooting with water from a hose would probably work and would be
a heck of a lot more humane.

Trapping "feral cats" also has laws around it -- if you trap a
cat that turns out to be someone's pet, and bring it to the
shelter telling them it's feral, you can get in trouble.

I don't want to start a giant discussion, but do want to say,
in your trying to discourage cats from going into your yard,
please try not to add more meanness to the world! We have a
tiny yard crammed with iris, and neighborhood cats sometimes
break off a leaf -- but it would no more occur to me to shoot
those cats with a bb gun, than it would to shoot the ivy
that invades from our neighbor's yard.
