No, Donna, ants don't eat aphids. They care for them, and eat the sweet sap they excret. They also care for cotoney scale which as been a pest on some of my irises this year. They also eat me when I work in the flower beds. I fight ants.

Ants seem to be very plentiful this year! They say because of dry weather.
They do eat aphids though don't they? Where is Bill Shear these days, he
would know for sure?
