OT:Terminology

(BTW, Queen of
> the Show is not a correct appellation).

"Queen of Show" may not be the correct appellation NOW but it WAS in 1980
when I took QUEEN OF SHOW in Hobbs, NM. I have the newspaper articles to
back me up! When did it change?

How many people say 'Best Specimen of the Show?' Everyone I know says QOS
in spite of what the Judges' Handbook says. To me this is another misnomer
like symposium that should be updated. Since irising is a hobby and a fun
thing and often dirty, why do we have to try to conform to JT authors
who think Best Speciman of the Show sounds 'gramatically, semantically,
politically, socially correct,' or whatever the stupid phrase BSOS
falls into. BSOS is what I call an affection - stilted language taught
by elocution teachers. I will use QOS until my last breath.

classes after school hours like my mother and aunt did - maybe elocution
school wasn't for boys, I don't know. Some of that language rubbed off on
my aunt, but not my mom who refused to speak it. And, that is why I
am stubborn about BSOS!)
